Two Things to Watch

There are two new shows that I highly recommend you check out. Unfortunately they both come on the same night at the same time, but if you have DVR then you should be in good shape.

#1.....The Pacific...Sunday nights at 8 pm/HBO. This is an 11 part (or 10 part) miniseries on HBO that started a week ago. It's based on the true stories of marines in WWII that were sent to Guadalcanal (sp?) in the Pacific Isles after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The series is produced Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and from what Matt says it is the same type of feel as Band of Brothers (I never saw it, but he said it was great). Tom Hanks does the opening of each episode (which is only 1 hour) and there are also interviews from the veteran marines that were there. Granted there is some language so be prepared, but overall it is very good and quite an eye opener. The way those men had to fight to stay alive is amazing to me. At one point this group of men were left alone on the island and they were ambushed in the middle of the night. They were highly outnumbered and they had to stay awake at all hours to keep watch for the enemy. The way they survived is beyond me, and it is amazing that they did. Thus far, only two episodes have shown, so if you have HBO and are interested, I'm sure they will replay them before episode 3. #2.....The second show is "Life" which is on the Discovery Channel, Sunday nights, 8 pm. My parents, Matt, and I watched the first two episodes Sunday night and were amazed. The technology of the filming is amazing and how they can slow down the footage so that you can see the details of the animals and their actions is really cool. After both episodes they showed small bits of how they filmed certain parts of the miniseries. One bit was of how they filmed the Komodo (sp?) dragons killing a Water Buffalo. It was amazing at how close they got to these animals and the footage they were able to get. You just have to see it!!! Supposedly it took 3 years to film the miniseries and I can definitely see why. Oprah Winfrey is also the narrator of the show as well. You should definitely check it out....you'll see some really cool footage and learn a lot :) Here's the link about the show: http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/life/
